This morning my family woke me up and told me that we’re going to the hospital. Asna and I have been sick ever since we returned from Beijing (she was also admitted to Beijing Hospital twice for wheezing, she needed the nebulizer). Asna did a test at Pantai Medical Center yesterday and today the result’s out- she’s H1N1 positive. I was told to go to the hospital, too, since asthmatics are more prone to H1N1 and since I’ve been sick- so that I could be tested. Just in case.
The kid thought that she was going to the hospital because she was sick. She was put in this isolation room near the emergency department. Couldn’t sit still, jumping up and down.
I was told to register at the hospital so that I can go through the throat swab test, while Asna went through the X-ray. I was then called to the same room for my test. Asna told me to “relax” and to open my mouth wide. I didn’t know what to expect, really, so was surprised when the nurse told me that I might feel like vomiting (and I vomit easily!). So she shoved the swab under my throat, told me it’s done- I ran to the toilet straight and puked!
A GP later came in and extracted Asna’s blood. Was amazed by how calm she was. She only said “Ouch, ouch, ouch!” (YES, only THREE ouches!- oh, add some American accent into the ouches, too) and they were done.
At least we thought.
A pediatrician, in charge of her, came in with more needles- more samples needed. This time they had to wrap her up- I guess this one was meant to sting more.
More rounds of ouches- this one lasted longer, went deeper. Not forgetting tears. Kesian gila la. But I’m proud of her- she didn’t scream or really resisted. It was my turn to tell her to “relax”. She sucked all the pain in, but somehow her cheerfulness was gone after that.
She was put on a wheelchair and brought to this isolated ward. She was placed in a room with glass walls for observation, a room where visitors have to wear medical gowns, gloves and caps, prior to entering.
Then I had to leave. My mom’s accompanying her tonight. So please, if you’re reading this, pray for my little sister 🙂 I hope everything turns out okay and that she will be out by tomorrow.
My test results, out tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m supposed to isolate myself from the community. That means not attending class tonight. Which sucks, because I’ve missed it three times already now!
