This is the second part of Asna: Growing up in pictures. Read Part I here.
My mum made her try this on as soon as she bought it and I made her pose for it. Asna’s comment?
“I don’t want to wear that. It’s for boys!”
The time I put wax on her hair for the first time. The Maddox! She hated it so much that she’d whine and close her eyes when she sees the picture. Her comment:
“I look like a boy!”
Pouting again. She had the chance to go to Australia again this time. She’s been talking about getting on “a pesawat” for months and months (told ya she speaks Indonesian!) after supposedly a dream one day. This was taken at Monash Clayton.
She’s wearing my PANTYHOSE and played rock star. Until it’s torn. Tsk.
Favorite party dress.
Gambar raya. Very awesome. I doubt you’d find another girl doing that there at Ika’s house.
She started listening to Gaga and did not ask me to play her playlist in iTunes when she’s in my room (previously her playlist is filled with Disney Princess songs and theme songs from Playhouse Disney Channel.) this time. I’m not saying Gaga is good for her, but the fact that she’s open to things other than Playhouse Disney. Once I was trying to sing Waking Up in Vegas in my room, trying to play the guitar, too and I stopped at this one point when I couldn’t remember the lyrics.
Suddenly she SANG where I left off.
“Where did you hear that song?!”
This girl does NOT listen to the radio nor watch MTV.
“I hear you sing”
So she actually memorized the lyrics when she heard me singing earlier!
Asna also started recording songs on her own when I’m not around, using my computer.
Sometimes we go out just because “Asna wants ice-cream”.
Dressing up, wearing a tiara, wrapped with towels and wearing shades and pretending to sing with a toy drum stick happened often.
She initially wanted a Mickey headband from Japan, until she called to tell me that she wants a Minnie headband because Mickey “is for boys”. So against anything “boys” it seems.
The language snob in Asna emerged when she was four. Read this first. These conversations with my maid happened this year I think. My maid had limited English knowledge. Her conversation with my maid include:
“Wow, Bibik boleh cakap English!”
“Bibik, Mama said you cannot go to Melbourne”
“Kenapa Bibik tak boleh?”
“Because you cannot speak English”
My mum never said such things. She made them up.
Okay anyway, you must be wondering why I’m posting up her old pictures. A tribute, I guess. The reason for this post is because…
Today is Asna’s BIRTHDAY!!!
That’s a musical birthday card – as it’s opened, Cinderella will sing (kids these days are TOO lucky). I meant to write this post earlier but the net’s rather slow tonight. So yes, I’m not around in Bangi to celebrate her birthday at my uncle’s, but I’ve mailed the card.
HAPPY 6TH BIRTHDAY ASNA!
May you grow smarter and prettier each day (and less mean).
I’m not sure what my dad said to her today, but my brother told me that she told my dad:
“Babah, I’m SIX years old, NOT five!”
She also wished herself happy birthday on Facebook a few times using my mum’s account. Haish. Somebody’s going to school next year!
