Malay wedding in Melbourne

Got the chance to sing at a Malay wedding today, in Clayton with the kompang group. The event was breath of fresh air from the receptions I’ve been to in Malaysia. There was a simple pelamin, buffet tables, relatives donned in traditional attires – the basic stuff. Instead of being a serious reception full of protocol, this one was quite laid back. When dancers were performing the crowd was rooting, clapping and the BRIDES even stood up to give standing ovation!

Tiny Indonesian dancers.

The newlyweds.

Mr. ASAM, Lutfi.

Pian, Roni, Zaed, Luqman.

I sang Selamat Pengantin Baru. Never in my life did I think I’d sing for weddings. This year I seem to have done it… TWICE!
