I used to feed two cats consistently, but they've multiplied, by birth and maybe some kind of feline word of mouth. New cats and kittens from other corners come around for food, but I don't have the resources to feed all. Some of these 'elder' feral cats are so nasty, hissing at me and the kittens as I pour food into the bowl, so I only continue feeding a few which had... better manners. As soon as I reach home, I know that about five cats will be waiting for me, either in our front or backyard.

Bibik is always on the lookout for new cats.

One thing I've started to notice is how some of the bigger cats have whiskers which were cut. If I recall correctly, that's what owners do before abandoning their cats - cutting the whiskers so that the cats won't remember their way home. That explains the difference in attitudes between a group of them - the feral cats (born in the wild, probably offsprings of abandoned cats) are a bit more timid and anxious, whereas the stray cats (domesticated but abandoned cats) are a bit more playful and better-behaved.

Recently found, lying about beneath our cars for a couple of days already. Whiskers were cut.
To know that some of them have been abandoned is heartbreaking. These cats need TLC. Makes me think twice before getting a cat from the pet store. Any takers?

omg so sad kena cut the whiskers :'( I loveeee cats!!
ReplyDeleteyou're right about how those heartless owners cut the whiskers before they abandon the cats. Sad. I wish I've lots of money to help!
ReplyDeleteKitten no.3 looks cute! Nnt i confirm balik if i nak that one.
ReplyDeletereally? i didnt know that... no wonder la! my gardener had this weird habit of cutting my cats whiskers, and a couple of cats ended up missing! he told me its to tell them who's boss... proly he is annoyed that them cats does their business inde garden..
ReplyDeleteKat Australia ni mmg pet lover di galakan adopt cats or dogs dari animal shelter. Kat sini jarang sekali jumpa stray cat. Kalau ada pun mmg kena hantar ke shelter. Lepas tu tuan2 punya cat kena neuter their cats. Anak akak punya cats mmg dah kena neuter dan ada chips. Oh lagi satu, some supermarket ada bins utk kita sedekah kan makanan dlm tin/kotak utk binatang2 kat shelter. Mmg kesian bila kita tgk strays yg berkeliaran kan..
ReplyDelete@Nazneen Yeah and their number is increasing. Kesian.
ReplyDelete@Nana D I have cat food in my weekly budget now. You can adopt them :)
@Seri That one's very scared of people. Need a lot of brainwashing to do - but of course you know how to, I suppose.
@Hannah -_-' Your gardenerrr. You can interrogate him now.
@Flower That's nice to know. I suppose they're more advanced when it comes to this. Where in Aussie are you? I read about voluntary groups in the US who help neuter stray cats. Terfikir jugak nak neuter kan the cats, but after finding out the cost, I gave up.
Last time i remember i have 3 cats, but now what i can see is i have bout 15 cats. Hahaha.. some of them d new born kittens, but some just stray cats that then my dad decided to take care of them considering they will be no proper food for them. From royal cannin to Friskies now. AHhahahah Its ok. as long as they get to eat. and once in a while my dad give them chicken or fish.
ReplyDeleteIm not suprised if i come back next month, the numbers of cat increase. hehe
