Picked Reza up from the airport the other day. He’s back for summer holidays slash Eid. When he first bought the ticket many months ago, he asked me to guess the date of his return:
“The fact that you asked gave it away”
So yea, he returned to KL on my birthday. Ever since he went to Japan, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him on my birthdays. In a way, the day was historic. We were both tired – him from the almost seven hour flight, me from lack of sleep. The day needed to go on.
He asked what I wanted for my birthday earlier. I haven’t given it much thought… I’d forgotten that my birthday was coming up. Not very imaginative – I told him I’d settle with Toppo (the most splendid and halal chocolate wafer sticks I’ve ever tasted, but too expensive here) if he could find them discounted and Nescafe latte sachets from Japan.
He came back with TWELVE boxes of Toppo. That… I didn’t expect.
Also, a heart-shaped box in Cath Kidston print, filled with stuff he got off the claw crane (he’s a pro with the machine!) more Toppo and the latte sachets requested.
Just when I thought that was all he had, I was handed an envelope. He presented me another hand-made pop-up card! He’s aware that this can’t beat the last (already too high a benchmark), but I’m still happy I got something he made. I don’t mind getting a card like this every year *cough* THIS IS A HINT *cough*. Appreciate the careful color coordination, blends well with the tumblers he got me last time. “Your colors”, he said.
The day after he returned, he came over to my house for the cake-cutting ceremony with my family.
The crystal cake stand was taken out. Candles were lit up. A very hyper Asna (who was so excited to see her Abang Reza) led the Happy Birthday song. Turns out the birthday cake was a rainbow cake – the kind so often seen on 9GAG!!! Swear each layer tasted different. A rainbow cake to call my own!
Asna inspected the cake:
“Hey, where’s violet?”
“A rainbow cake should have red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. If this is indigo, where is violet?
Everybody was forced to have a fat slice.
I’ve come to the realization that this guy’s a real keeper.
Just to wrap it up. I want to thank everyone who’s wished me – either by phone calls (A+ for those who have serenaded me), texts, Facebook, Twitter and through this blog. I had a good time, appreciate it much!
