Since my birthday was held during the holidays, my colleagues were super nice to have treated me for lunch for the past few days. Earlier this week, Amanda drove Mardhiya and I in her new car to Bangsar, to spend our noon at Wondermama.
We were seated on the upper floor of the cafe, on retro couches, rested our arms on the coffee table and started going through the menu. The upper floor was occupied by several groups, but it seemed that there were only two waiters tasked to cover the floor — one was taking orders, the other was punching orders.
Having decided on what we wanted, Amanda pulled up her hand to call the waiter. None of them responded.
“Amira, can you call them?”
I waved my hand to catch the attention of the waiter, who seemed so into punching the orders on the machine. He wouldn’t look my way so I waved harder, but the effort went unnoticed. And then Amanda said:
“Do you guys think that when waiters don’t layan you, it’s because you’re ugly?”
Mardhiya and I looked at each other. We thought we heard wrong.
“Really? No? I always feel that when they don’t layan me, it’s because they think I’m ugly”.
She was serious WTF -_-‘
Then, instead of waiting for him to come, I walked up to the waiter and told him to take our orders.
While we were waiting for four ood, I kept on snapping pictures of the menu with my phone. Trying to explain what I was doing to Mardhiya, Amanda said:
“Mardhiya, do you know that Amira is a blogger? She needs to take pictures.”
She said that to Mardhiya multiple times while we were there, even when I’d stopped taking pictures -_-‘ She offered to help, too.
I aimed the camera at her.
“No, no, no! Don’t take my picture. No pictures until I lose weight!”
Then she took her phone out.
“Do you guys use Instagram?”
She’d just discovered how awesome Instagram is only recently (not exactly the early adopter of social media) and began taking pictures of the small bunch of flowers that was on our table and later, her food. While she was choosing the best filter to go with the picture:
“Don’t you just love this? I feel like an artist when I use Instagram.”
The best thing about the lunch session? Shit that came out of Amanda’s mouth.
