When she goes out with my parents, Asna’s wishes are often granted.
When she goes out with me, it’s a different case. Before we go out, I’d explain where we’re going and why we’re going there. Sometimes I’d strictly say that she’s not getting anything, but if I’m generous and she’d asked nicely, I’d tell her that I’d pay for something that she wants, with certain conditions e.g. the price (capped at RM5), the quantity (only one) or the type of things she can buy (like healthy food items).
This one time, more than a year ago, she accompanied me to Mesra. Since I didn’t mention that I won’t be getting her anything before we left, it’s her chance to ask for something! Knowing I wouldn’t approve ordinary candies, she picked up a packet a packet of Ribena pastilles. Relatively healthy candy, or so we’ve been led to believe.
“Can I buy Ribena pastilles?”
Asna’s habit of buying for the sake of buying… is annoying. Thought I’d make her life harder.
“But I don’t have money. I only have this much.”
The money I gave her wasn’t enough for the Ribena.
Then… I decided to troll.
“You know what? You don’t have to pay.”
“Just get out quietly. They won’t notice.”
She was stunned and shook her head in disbelief as I was saying it:
“We can steal it!”
“No, no, no.”
I walked toward the exit, but she won’t budge. Tears were slowly welling up in her eyes.
And at that instant, she was crying at Mesra -_-‘
This prank was too much for her to handle, so I stopped. I handed her enough money to pay for the pastilles.
“I’m kidding, I’m kidding! Go pay!”
My law-abiding little sister hated me for a while, slightly sobbing after paying and entering the car with a red face. On the way home, just to set it straight, I told her:
“Did you seriously think I’d ask you to steal the candy?! You’re crazy!”
I know I’m horrible, but I can’t be the only one.
