When I was told that my room will undergo a makeover for the wedding, I was against the idea. Maybe the most anal person in the house, I thought that my room’s been properly furnished over the years and I was partly offended at the idea of it not being good enough. My mum was adamant on having it made over and gave reasons which made no sense to me, except one — that it’s a sign of respect, to welcome the new member of the family.
I resisted until I started to see this as an opportunity to get a free bedroom makeover.

So we agreed that we’re going to change the walls, beddings and curtains. I prepared a moodboard for my new room before doing making decisions. Moodboards are good, they stop you from making impulsive decisions when you’re at the store.
The pictures I had on the slides were gathered from Pinterest. Keyword: Neutral French Bedrooms; because I’ve always wanted a room which looks just a little like the ones in the gallery of The French Bedroom Company. It was an opportunity to transform my room into something more grown-up and refined, too.

One of the major changes would be the walls. For the paint, I picked an off-white shade with brown undertone. Had the walls done while I was at work. When I came home, the room that I’ve had for more than five years had changed drastically.
Not sure what to make of the room. It felt wrong.
“Did they give me the wrong paint?!”
They didn’t. It was exactly the color I picked. But I suppose I was a little too shocked by the change, that I contemplated on repainting it to the way it was. But I stopped myself, after referring back to the moodboard. This was part of the plan and I should just wait, I thought.
The color began to grow on me after a few days. Every morning when I wake up, these days, it feels so good because the room’s so serene and tranquil! Actually quite happy that I picked it.

Fabrics. An area I was really hesitant to spend on. I thought what I had would suffice and all we needed were new bedsheets. My mum, however, thinks that unless I have new curtains, sheets and a quilted bedspread, the room wouldn’t look Bilik Pengantin worthy.
My mum brought me to her friend’s little store, where I was made to choose the fabrics from several samples. I based the fabrics I chose according to this picture:
And I ended up with these:
I chose this lace-like patterned fabric for the quilted bedspread and pillow sheets and striped fabric for the curtains. For the bed’s skirting, I picked a plain caramel-colored fabric. All of them are from Elyza’s.
We managed to get everything done just days before the wedding day. With just these, my room now looks as if it’s gone a huge makeover. Different, but I welcome it. I’ll share how the room turns out once I get the pictures.
