An elder cousin is getting married this weekend. For the reception, family members are asked to wear something in a darker shade of blue. I didn’t have an appropriate dress to fit the theme, but that’s okay, because this was a chance to make a new one!
Exatly a month ago, I bought home royal blue silk and a fabric belt that’s embellished with beads and stones, for the two-piece dress I had in mind. Upon advice by a friend, I sent them to Teresa Tailor for tailoring — a place I’ve been meaning to try out for years.
Within two weeks, the dress was done. Quite impressed with the outcome!
Here’s a picture of the royal blue two-piece dress I made. The dress includes a peplum top with an embellished waist and a regular flare skirt. The dress received quite a few compliments on the day I wore it, reinforcing my belief that it’s a pretty piece.
The damage to my wallet (inclusive of the silk and embellished fabrics and good tailoring) was just a little more than RM800. That’s a lot less than what I usually spend on my previous dresses, probably because chiffon silk, silk lining and beaded laces — what I’ve been using for the past few years — generally cost a lot more.
I think my strategy for this raya will be using thicker fabric and ready made embellished belts for my raya dresses. And I shall send them to Teresa! If you want to learn more about the tailor, check out:

March 11, 2014 at 9:37 AManother question, how much per meter for silk material like this.if i go jakel, just ask for silk plain eh?

March 12, 2014 at 6:34 PMThink I got mine at RM78 per meter. If you want to look for it, the name is Italian Graziani. Ntah betul ke tidak silk. I wanted the dress to be made with shantung or crepe silk, but the color’s hard to find in other fabrics.
