Getting married: The main table

One of the things that I wanted for the big day was to dine as newlyweds on our own private table. Since newlyweds are usually seated with honored guests, it took a while to convince my parents that it’s now okay for the bride and groom to sit alone on the day. It’s only for a single occasion anyway.

The outcome

After approvals by parents were sought, I commissioned Ari Wedding Couture (the same people who did my akad nikah pelamin) to decorate the main table for the reception at home, post akad nikah.

The work was actually minimal, however the table was beautifully decorated. Don’t think I could have done it better. We were dining on our own table, surrounded by big bouquets of roses and candles in glass jars. We were sitting on ghost chairs, too. It created a very nice ambience.

Loved it!

Lessons learned

Not everything went according to plan though. While we’re eating relatives started pulling chairs and offering distant elder relatives seats beside us -_-‘ It was awkward. The ambience I earlier mentioned was gone lol.

If you’re trying to pull off a table for two for the newlyweds at home, it may be best to inform family members overseeing the event, beforehand, that the table is strictly for the bride and groom.

Oh well.

Hahahah all that hard work of getting approval. Too bad my mom and future MIL would never approve.

That’s what I thought, but… Point pictures of only the bride and groom dining together and get a supportive aunt/uncle to back you up! Might help 🙂

Aaahh now I remember how Malay weddings are all about relatives and not the newlyweds. So many things I proposed to my mom went straight into the bins, all with a standard reply “Nanti apa orang/saudara kataaaaa”..I wanted my wedding to be super simple, like just nikah and then a small jamuan. Could have saved a lot of money and beauty sleep, man! But my wedding ended up being extravaganza just to please the elders. Nevertheless, Alhamdullillah I’m safely married.
