Getting married: Akad nikah invitation cards

For the akad nikah reception invitation cards, I opted for something very simple. I already have a design in mind, I just needed someone who could turn it into a reality.

About three months before the event, both of us headed to a wedding fair in KL, hoping to get our invitation cards done. Of all the vendors, we were keen with Seri Sireh Avenue. The cards were tasteful, minimalistic and affordable. I most appreciated the fact that the company would allow me to tweak their existing designs and use my own layout and fonts.

The more cards you order, the cheaper the rate gets. We took advantage of this by ordering 600 cards for both our reception (300 for me and 300 for him) using the same design. Seri Sireh said that we only needed to alter the details and colors for the respective receptions, at no additional cost.

After calculating, we learned the cost of a shimmer card with a single color and hotstamping and printed envelope combined would only cost us RM1.10. Not bad.

Few weeks after making the deposit, they emailed, requesting the details for our event. We sent them the details, along with the design of the card that I made on PDF and for the background, an image of a gold damask wallpaper that I got from Google. For the map, I just scanned a copy of the map that was on my neighbor’s kad kahwin. Once we’ve finalized the layout, I confirmed the wordings and sent them the fonts I wanted (I am very particular about the fonts I use).

Took them a while to get back to us and it took a couple of emails for them to understand what we wanted. We had to keep on calling Seri Sireh to know the progress, but the girls there were very soft spoken and apologetic over the errors, that we couldn’t get mad!

Once  details were confirmed and payment was made, the cards and envelopes were printed — after more than a month of exchanging emails. Printing took approximately two weeks and instead of having the card delivered, we needed to go to the Seri Sireh office to pick it up.

Here’s the outcome, a one piece, two-sided shimmer card with our names at the front and the details and map at the back. Pretty neat.
