When I was a small child, my dad let me watch a lot with P Ramlee movies. If the video player wasn’t playing Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White or the Little Mermaid playing, you can bet that it was playing a P Ramlee movie!
Here’s a scene that I vaguely remember from Seniman Bujang Lapok — it was P Ramlee and Saloma singing and dancing and resting on tree branches, at a park at night ala Hindustan. What I remember most about the scene, is Saloma dancing and twirling her dark floral skirt. I so wanted a something like that — a floral skirt that’s twirl-able.
My parents, they knew. When my mum returned from the office one day, she brought home and presented a flared floral skirt for me. I was stoked!
After that it became my favorite skirt. I was always wearing it, singing and dancing and twirling it at home (most of the time at the balcony of the apartment), pretending to be Saloma.
I don’t know where the skirt is now. Thinking of it makes me want to buy something similar, right now. So, it makes me restless to have found a more mature version of the skirt, online.
I think this knee-length skirt from Alice + Olivia is beautiful. It could perfectly replace my long lost floral skirt!
If only it’s made more affordable.
