Some months ago Asna and I went online to check out the meaning of our names. When she learned that Asna means “dazzlingly brilliant” in Arabic, she beamed. When she learned that Amira means “princess”, she looked at me one kind and said:
“… but you don’t look like a princess?”
You sure look “dazzlingly brilliant” *roll eyes*.
We were looking up the meaning of our names in foreign languages using Google Translate again, recently.
The first result for the meaning of Asna was “ass” hahahahaha!
She was disturbed and in disbelief, but from further reading we learned that the ass in the context was referring to donkey-ass. Specifically, female donkey. So. “Asna” means “female donkey” in Spanish lolololol.
Better than butt-ass but still!
“What! A female donkey?!”
She looked at the stairs and saw parents heading down. She said:
“Did you know Asna means female donkey in Spanish??? This is all your fault!”
I kept on teasing her and she continued being bothered over it until dinner:
“I’m never going to Spain. If I tell them my name they’re all going to laugh at me…”
Now, when we raise this, defensive Asna will then firmly tell her trollers:
“Don’t believe everything you read on the internet!”
Well… if you happen to cross paths with Asna, don’t say “Hello!”, instead say, “Hee-Hoo!”
Like a donkey, get it? Hee-hoo.
