I bought one of the bags I’ve been yearning for a looong time — the Chloe Paraty. I was eyeing (specifically) on the python Paraty in black for years now (read about my crush on the bag), but the bag and I aren’t meant to be, especially at a hefty price tag. Although I’m a skilled discount hunter, the best deals I’ve found on the bag were still amounts too big for me to consider.
So during the long weekend, I was going through Reebonz and saw a Paraty that was on flash sale. It’s a black paraty with thick, textured leather. Since getting the python is a little farfetched at the moment, the next best thing, I thought, is to get a textured Paraty. The texture on a Paraty gives it more character. It’s what makes it different than the rest of the lot.
Since this store was just in Singapore and it offers free returns, I thought, why not just get it? I saved the pictures of the bag, telling my cousin Ika that I’m getting this one because it looks so good. It’s an elegant black bag!
Order was made. Received the bag a day after the order was confirmed, there was no doubt that the service is good. Now, comes the part that both excites and concerns me when it comes to online shopping — the unboxing.
How did I feel? I thought, here’s the bag that I’d been wanting to get for a while, but I felt just a little excited after seeing it IRL — not as much as I’d imagined I’d be. It’s the bag that I saw on the website, yes, but it didn’t look as good as it did, online. It didn’t take my breath away like my other bags. I wasn’t wowed.
I’m not sure why!
After looking back at the photos online, I noticed that the bag on the site looked so much saturated on screen. Online it looks jet black and polished (like someone slathered it with black leather polish), but IRL it’s, well, not as black and glossy.
(When I told Mama she was like… “But it’s black?! You want it to be black macam mana lagi?” I told her there are different hues of black — I have other black bags i.e. the City and Stam and I can tell which is darker than the other.)
That said, it’s not really the bag. Although the leather isn’t as nice as I’d hoped for, I still love the structure, the texture and the details that come with it. This Paraty is a beautiful bag in its own right, cuma it’s not as beautiful as I was led to believe. A case of expectation > reality.
I really want to keep this!!! But for the amount of money spent on the bag, I’m not crazy in love with it, so right now I’m planning to return it and get a refund sobs.
What do you think?
