There’s just so many bags that one could love. The problem is… impossible to have them all!
At the peak of my bag obsession stage before I started earning (where all I did was to read about and saved pictures of bags), I stumbled upon Bag, Borrow or Steal, a luxury bag rental portal in the US. Instead of having to pay so much to get the chance to wear the bags that they want, these lucky girls in the states can just rent them, which means that can change bags as many times as they want, paying just a small portion of the bag’s retail prices.
Back then I was thinking… how cool would it be if we had Bag, Borrow or Steal in KL?!
Let me tell you: now, we do!
There’s this new startup called The Bag Up Plan, Malaysia’s 1st luxury bag rental portal that’s offering rental services of designer bags at prices that won’t break our banks. They contacted me earlier, asking if I’d be OK with giving their service a go. Mestilah YES!
This whole idea of renting bags is appealing to me because:
- Sometimes I’m just so curious about the bag that I feel the need to get it just to carry it. Instead of spending $$$ on one bag (thus impairing my ability to get the other bags in my wishlist for a long period of time), I could carry different bags whenever I feel like it, by paying a portion of their price. Variety, baby.
- If I’m dead serious about owning a bag, I could also test-carry it before buying. Don’t you hate it when you save and spend so much on a bag only to realize that it’s not for you, a week later? With the service, I could see whether there’s chemistry between me and the bag — if there is, I could start scheming on how I’m going to buy it; if there’s none, I could just return it.
Since they’re new, The Bag Up Plan’s inventory is still small. That didn’t stop me from going for the bag I’ve been so curious about for a long time, the Celine Nano Luggage. I see so many girls carrying this for years, but I never really thought of owning it because I know it’s super expensive (RM10,000 I think?). This was my chance XD
Carried it to work and play, admiring and flaunting my bag of the week. On the side, I also received some “CANTIKNYA!” comments from friends, asking me where I got it.
When I told them where the bag’s from and showed The Bag Up Plan’s IG account, I received different reactions. The girls were squealing with excitement at the thought of being able to carry the Balenciaga City or Fendi 2 Jours for less than RM150/week. A guy told me that it’s a good idea for hantaran XD
Of course, there are those not so keen on renting luxury bags yet. I don’t know about you… I’d rather carry the bags that I’ve been crushing on (even for a while), than not having the chance to carry them at all.
Once my renting period was over, The Bag Up Plan picked up the bag from my place. Curiosity, satisfied 🙂
