It was just another day. Actually, the eve of my birthday. Still, I planned on treating it just like it was another day and told Reza that I wanted to just stay at home and do nothing over the weekend.
I was hanging out in the kitchen, cutting up fruits when Bibik passed by me and said:
“Kamu tau tak Reza ada belikan kamu kek harijadi, ada dalam peti ais?”
I shook my head. Slowly.
She was surprised. Tapped my shoulder.
“Oh ye ke? Nanti kamu buat-buat tak tau…”
Then, I was having fruits while watching the TV inside the hall, when Reza told me that he was going out for while.
“Babe, I nak keluar kejap.”
Seeing me confused, he spoke softly and told me that he’s going out with Asna to find things for me, because she planned on preparing for a surprise party, that night.
“Nanti you buat-buat tak tau la, okay?”
Then, he got up and pretentiously said:
“Babe, I keluar dulu!”
He signaled for me to go up. So I went up.
On the way, I saw Asna coming down, looking rather upbeat.
“Cikyong, later at 5:30PM, please don’t come near my room, okay? I want some privacy.”
I stayed in the bedroom until late in the evening, ignoring the sounds of them leaving and coming back.
Sometimes they come into the room to check up on me, after that they’ll disappear for a while. Asna, terrible at keeping things “low”, kept on telling me that she wanted to have a private discussion with me about “life” later in the evening. She couldn’t talk then, because she still needed some “privacy” in her room. At one point, she was carrying a balloon to my room, telling me she bought it to party with her toys.
I went outside of the room to take a peek and noticed a dark hall. Tapi I was supposed to buat bodoh, so I buat bodoh.
At 8:00PM, Asna knocked on the door.
“Cikyong, can you come downstairs for a while? I’d like to have a private discussion with you.”
“Why do you want to talk about something private when there’s people downstairs?”
“Oh there’s just you and me. Come on, let’s go.”
Private discussion konon.
So I went down. The hall was dark. The only source of light… came from the candles on top of the Baskin Robbins cake. My birthday cake. Then they screamed:
I kena act surprised.
I was walking my way to the coffee table surrounded my so many balloons, when Asna asked:
“Are you surprised???”
Both of them sang me the birthday song. Before I blew the candles, I thought out loud:
“What should I wish for?!”
Then Asna interrupted.
“A Balenciaga bag!”
Made my wish and blew the cake.
After that, she started asking if I knew that something was up. Then she started revealing her whole “plot” to me, outlining who did what. Not just her, later Reza also revealed what happened while they were out. Apparently she panicked when the learned that the party shop closed, saying she’s “so dead”, but was relieved that she found balloons (which she made Reza blow all 50 kot) at the grocer’s.
“Here’s a birthday gift for you.”
She pointed to a solid hair clip.
“Aww, thank you!”
She had to add:
“Actually, you should thank Abang Reza. He paid for it, he paid for everything.”
Then she left the scene to watch the TV.
Then I ate the Jamoca Almond Fudge cake with Reza.
So that’s how I spent the eve of my birthday, with a “surprise” party by my favorite people.
