We had a case study on Yamato (the company that brought you Takyubin) in Service Management. There we learned about the humble beginnings of this now major corporation and how its dedication to serving its customer made it Japan’s leading and most trusted courier and their challenges in managing services as they go global. Post discussion, the General Manager of Yamato’s Global Business Development came to share his experience of going global.
Later, we went to Yamato Chronogate to visit Yamato’s state-of-the-art logistics distribution center at Haneda. I wasn’t allowed to take pictures, but to see from the glass windows, how parcels get sorted with the help of scanners on conveyor belts moving up and down on high speed made the whole place look like an amusement park with roller coasters for parcels. Mind-blown.
